through USPTO (US Patent & Trademark Office) Patent Database. US Patents issured over the period of past 200 some years (since 1790) are searchable through this database. As of March 2003, full-text plus images are avaiable for patents issued since 1976, and only images available using patent numbers for patents prior to 1976.

through Derwent Data of Delphion Inc., a new company spun out of IBM in 2000. The searchable intellectual property information from the Derwent Data which is known as the world's largest database of patents includes US Patents, European Patents, Japan Patents (Abstracts), and PCT Publications. Patent numbers, key words or phrases may be used for search. Free search is limited to front page only.

through European Patent Office patent database. Searchable information includes patents, published patent applications of EPO and its contracting nations. Patent numbers, publication numbers, inventor's names and titles may be used for search.

through the PCT Database covering full text of patent applications both raised onto international stage under Patent Cooperation Treaty and published with expiration of eighteen months from the earliest filing date. PCT application numbers, publication number, keywords of the invention and applicant's information may be used for this search.

through USPTO Trademark Database. Usable to verify whether a desired trademark is registered or pending with the USPTO.

using Madrid Express Database by the World Intellectual Property Office. Enables trademark search for marks internationally filed under Madrid Protocol through contracting parties. Boolean search available. The US Patent & Trademark Office has joined the Protocol August 2nd, 2003 and starts receiving international trademark applications from November 2nd, 2003.
